Fruit is the original superfood. It contains lots of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytochemicals, fiber and even amino acids – all nutrients that are ESSENTIAL for your health.
Eating a wide variety of fruit can be difficult and many people, me included, struggle to eat more than a couple of pieces of fruit a day. A lot of us eat mostly apples, bananas and those “usual suspects”.
With fruit smoothies, it is not only possible to eat MORE fruit but a bigger variety of fruit too! Simply select 3-5 different fruits and berries, whizz them up in your blender, the blender I use and blenders I recommend here, and almost instantly you have a nutrient-packed meal in a glass.
You can use frozen fruit and fresh fruit in smoothies but if you use fresh, try to choose seasonal fruits as they tend to have the highest amounts of vitamins. Exotic fruits are grown many miles away in a foreign country. They are then picked, packed, transported and often stored for long periods of time which means, by the time you buy them and blend them, they are quite old. As soon as fruit is picked, its vitamin content starts to decline so that means that fresh is and always will be best with frozen fruit coming a very close second.
