I am a huge fan of Christmas. I love the presents, the trees, the decorations, the carol singing, spending special time with my family and friends and, of course, I love the food too! But what I don’t love is that almost all traditional Christmas desserts are very high in sugar!
Of course, a few sweet treats now and then are no big deal – why not enjoy them at this time of year? But Christmas is about more than a few treats; they are everywhere and it’s very easy to overeat.
If you aren’t careful, Christmas can become a complete sugar-fest and you end up stumbling from one high sugar dessert to another. Pies, cakes, puddings and all those other traditional Christmas desserts contain so much sugar that they can never be considered healthy.
If you have read my articles before, you’ll know that I try to avoid eating too much sugar and I suggest that anyone who cares about their health and their weight does the same. Sugar is nothing but empty calories and those calories are very easily turned to fat. Sugar is also highly addictive which is why so many of us just can’t stop eating it.
If you have managed to quit eating so much sugar, by doing my No Sugar Days diet for example, the last thing you want to do is go back to eating lots of sugar just because it’s Christmas. But, that doesn’t mean you have to skip desserts and treats during the holidays. That would be a shame!
So, instead, I want to share with you some of my favorite low sugar dessert recipes that make ideal replacements for traditional Christmas desserts.
I’ve tried and tested all these recipes and I love them – I’m sure you will too. And even your sugar-eating friends will enjoy them.
So, this year, skip your normal Christmas desserts and try one of these wonderful lower sugar alternatives; your waist and your health will thank you!
